A Thermocouple Theory
A thermocouple is an electrical device consisting of two dissimilar electrical conductors forming electrical junctions at differing temperatures.
A thermocouple produces a temperature-dependent voltage as a result of the thermoelectric effect, and this voltage can be interpreted to measure temperature. Thermocouples are a widely used type of temperature sensor.
In 1821, the German physicist Thomas Johann Seebeck discovered that when different metals are joined at the ends and there is a temperature difference between the joints, a magnetic field is observed.
At the time, Seebeck referred to this consequence as thermo-magnetism. The magnetic field he observed was later shown to be due to thermo-electric current.
Thermocouple Range
Four specialized families engineered for every industrial temperature regime.
Base Metal Thermocouples
These thermocouples use base metal wire insulated in a 2-hole or 4-hole insulator and outer metal tubes like SS 304, 316, 310, 446 varieties, Inconel 600, 800 and ceramic tubes.
Noble Metal Thermocouples
These thermocouples are suitable for high temperatures, Types R, S & B, with sillimanite and recrystillized alumina tubes. Maximum temperature 1800°C.
Special Purpose Coated Thermocouples
Available with special outer tubes like zirconia, graphite, silicon carbide graphite for non-ferrous molten metals.
Washer Type Thermocouples
For effective measurement of temperature on non-accessible locations, screw type. Maximum useful temperature up to 400°C.
