Resistance Temperature Detectors
Resistance thermometers, also called resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), are sensors used to measure temperature. Many RTD elements consist of a length of fine wire wrapped around a ceramic or glass core, but other constructions are also used. The RTD wire is a pure material, typically platinum, nickel, or copper.
The material has an accurate resistance/temperature relationship which is used to provide an indication of temperature. As RTD elements are fragile, they are often housed in protective probes to ensure durability in industrial environments.
High Accuracy & Repeatability
RTDs offer excellent accuracy over a wide temperature range (from –200 to +500 °C) and are slowly replacing thermocouples in industrial applications below 600 °C.
- 01. Precise resistance/temperature relationship
- 02. Superior repeatability in measurements
- 03. Stable performance over long periods
- 04. Ideal for critical process control
PT100 Platinum Thermometers
Platinum resistance thermometers (PRTs) offer excellent accuracy. For precision work, sensors have four wires—two to carry the sense current, and two to measure the voltage across the sensor element.
- 01. Pure platinum wire elements
- 02. 4-wire configuration for precision
- 03. Immune to lead wire resistance errors
- 04. Linear resistance curve
Industrial Applications
Our RTDs are highly effective for low-temperature measurement in Refrigeration, food processing, breweries, oil temperatures, and more. They are available in PT-50, PT-100, PT-200, PT-1000 Simplex and Duplex varieties to suit any requirement.
